The Panerai PAM01697 is a 44 sized Submersible Marina Militare with one of the more interesting color combinations in the current lineup.
The dial is a matte, grained green that fades into black toward the outer edge. Paired with the green ceramic bezel and grey Super-LumiNova, it gives the watch a much darker, more tactical look than the standard black or blue Submersible. I really like that the green is obvious without being bright.
The case is brushed stainless steel and keeps the familiar 44 Submersible proportions, with the signature crown guard, large luminous markers, date at 3, and small seconds at 9. Water resistance is rated to 300 meters, and the unidirectional bezel uses a matte green ceramic insert.
Inside is Panerai’s automatic P.900 movement with a three-day power reserve. It is a straightforward setup that fits this watch well: hours, minutes, small seconds, and date, without adding anything the Submersible does not need.
This example also gives you two very different factory strap options. The green textile strap leans into the military look and works especially well with the dial, while the black rubber strap gives the watch a cleaner, more traditional dive-watch feel. Panerai supplies both with this reference.
From a value standpoint, the PAM01697 gives you a current-generation Submersible, ceramic bezel, 300 meters of water resistance, a three-day automatic movement, and a much less common green configuration than the more familiar black versions.
If you’re looking for the unmatched style of the Submersible, but you want something a little more unique, this green Militare is an excellent choice.
Condition This example comes in excellent, preowned condition. The only flaw of note is a small strap wear mark between the 6:00 lugs. The dial, crystal, and bezel are flawless.
The watch is keeping excellent time on a timegrapher and does not require service at this time.
