Omega Speedmaster Moonphase - 304.30.44.52.01.001
The Omega Speedmaster Moonphase takes the familiar Speedmaster formula and adds quite a bit more functionality without losing the overall look of the watch.
This reference is housed in a 44.25mm stainless steel case with a black dial, tachymeter bezel, and three-register layout. The dial is busier than a traditional Moonwatch, but it stays well organized. You get the chronograph, date, and moonphase all worked into a layout that still feels unmistakably Speedmaster.
The moonphase is the detail that really sets this one apart. Omega uses a highly detailed representation of the moon rather than a simple flat disc, and it gives the watch a lot more visual interest up close. It is functional, but it is also just a cool complication to have on the dial.
Inside is Omega’s automatic Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9904 with approximately 60 hours of power reserve. It is a column-wheel chronograph movement with the added moonphase and date functions, and it is visible through the sapphire caseback.
At 44.25mm, this is a substantial Speedmaster. It has noticeably more presence than the standard Moonwatch, but the case shape and bracelet keep it balanced on the wrist. If you like the Speedmaster design but want something with more complication and a little more visual weight, this is a very interesting version.
From a value standpoint, there is a lot here: an automatic Master Chronometer chronograph, moonphase, date, steel bracelet, sapphire crystal, and 100 meters of water resistance, all in one package.
It is also a reference you simply do not see nearly as often as the standard Speedmaster Professional. It is not a limited edition, but the combination of the larger case, moonphase display, and Calibre 9904 gives it a very different identity within the Speedmaster lineup.
